Here Because We Are Here

I’ve looked for it in
dreams of rotting teeth
and fearful chases

in Frankl’s philosophy
in enlightened
pages

in quiet moments
I have almost found it
in my backyard
in the way the
pines whisper to
each other or the
way the cedars house
the robins and
nourish the deer

or in my daughter’s
squeals of joy
it materializes for a moment
and then like water
on rock it slips
away eluding
permanence but I

have since wondered
what I mean by meaning
if maybe the search
is the point if
we are here because
we are here
and if that’s enough
